We are honored to celebrate alumnus Steve Schmidt ’93 on his induction into the UConn Academy of Distinguished Engineers as a member of the Class of 2026!
Founded in 2003, the Academy of Distinguished Engineers recognizes UConn College of Engineering alumni and friends whose careers are characterized by sustained and exemplary contributions to the engineering profession through research, practice, education, policy, or service.
Schmidt earned his B.S. in Chemical and Materials Engineering from UConn in 1993 and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from RPI at Work in 1998. He currently serves as Vice President and Chief Engineer for the Lockheed Martin Sikorsky Aircraft line of business, providing technical leadership across the full aircraft lifecycle. In this role, he leads more than 2,300 engineers worldwide supporting U.S. military, international, and commercial customers. During his career at Sikorsky, Schmidt has held leadership roles across several major aircraft programs, including the CH-53E and CH-53K Heavy Lift programs, the MH-60S and MH-60R helicopter programs, and the Canadian Maritime Helicopter Program.
